2009 High Option Plan Overview

Mailing Address for Providers

APWU Health Plan's High Option is a fee-for-service plan that includes Preferred Provider Organization networks.

The High Option offers a unique Wellness benefit, 24 hour-a-day access to a voluntary nurse advisory line, and an excellent prescription drug program, with no deductible and low copayments. APWU Health Plan's Well Child benefit covers recommended childhood immunizations at 100% if a Preferred Provider is used. Members receive 100% coverage with the High Option's Accidental Injury benefit if PPO providers are used, and in-network mental health and substance abuse benefits are comparable to medical care.

Members can obtain considerable cost savings by using Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) providers, but can choose any provider they wish. Many of our members find that their doctors and their hospital of choice participate with one of our cost-saving Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO). The Health Plan pays a higher percentage of the cost for PPO providers, while these providers discount the costs for their services. Additionally, PPO providers will bill the Health Plan directly, eliminating the need to file claims.

The High Option offers almost 6,000 PPO hospitals and over 600,000 outpatient providers, including primary care physicians, specialists, laboratories and surgical centers. Participating providers are found in all 50 states, plus Washington, DC, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In addition to the thousands of PPO hospitals and doctors that participate with the High Option, we also have a contract with 59,000 retail pharmacies throughout the country.
