All Postal employees and retirees who are eligible to enroll in the Federal Employee Health Benefits (FEHB) program may become members of an APWU Health Plan.
- All active Postal Service APWU bargaining unit employees must be dues-paying members of the APWU, except where exempt by law. Active and retired Postal Service employees' membership dues vary by APWU local.
- Postal Service employees in non-APWU bargaining units (i.e. letter carriers, mail handlers, rural carriers) may enroll by becoming an Associate Member of the union. You will pay only a $35 per year Associate Member fee, which is billed after you enroll in the plan.
- Postal Service retirees may also enroll in an APWU Health Plan.
- As part of the 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement, the APWU has negotiated for Postal Support Employees (PSE) to have access to the FEHB Program. Once the PSE completes their 360-day initial appointment, they will be able to enroll in the APWU Health Plan’s Consumer Driven Option and the United States Postal Service pays 75% of the premium. With other plans, you would be responsible for paying 100% of the premium.
