COVID-19 testing: What you need to know

Reasons to get tested:

  • You have COVID-19 symptoms
  • At least 5 days have passed since you were in close contact to someone with COVID-19
  • For screening (schools, workplaces, congregate settings, etc.)
  • Before and after travel
  • When a healthcare professional or public health official asks you to get tested

Treating someone at home

If you are caring for someone with COVID-19 at home or in a non-healthcare setting, follow guidelines from the CDC to protect yourself and others.

If someone shows any of these signs, seek emergency medical care immediately:

  • Trouble breathing
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • New confusion
  • Inability to wake or stay awake
  • Pale, gray, or blue-colored skin, lips, or nail beds, depending on skin tone
